Dear SAS members,
At our August Committee meeting the Committee discussed how we can start to return to normal and start meeting up in person again.
The management of the Washington Wetlands Centre are still very cautious about mass gatherings indoors and have asked that we keep numbers to a minimum.
Therefore, we have therefore decided to adopt a gradual return to normality, whatever normality will mean in the future.
For the time being we will restrict our society gatherings to full members only and we would ask members to confirm in advance if they are planning to attend so we can safely manage numbers.
This will be done by email. We will email all members when an event is planned and ask that you reply if you intend coming.
Starbeque
Weather permitting we will have our annual “starbque” on Saturday 11th September at the usual location Millshields carpark at Derwent Reservoir.
Observing at Washington wetlands
The committee intend to hold our next monthly meeting in person at the wetlands on Sunday 12th September followed by members observing from 7pm.
This will most likely be either on the Veranda or in the Discovery Room with the Door open.
Please let us know if you plan to attend either or both events.
Free membership renewal
The SAS committee decided to wave the 2021 membership renewal fee for all existing members.
This would normally have become due on 1st September, however as we have not been able to meet or hold events, and in recognition of your continued support we felt it only right to do this.
New members during the coming year will still be required to pay the membership fee.
SAS Membership ID Badges
The processing new SAS Membership ID Badges will deferred until November/December 2021 when/if we have greater access to the Wetlands Discovery Room to process the SAS membership ID cards/badges.
Thursday & Sunday Evenings
Until further notice, due to Wetlands Centre Current Restrictions Thursday & Sunday Meetings will be SAS members only.
Initially this will only happen when a reasonable forecast allows.
3rd Sunday Lectures
September’s Lecture will run via Zoom.
The SAS Committee will decide the subsequent lecture locations at the following monthly Committee Meetings.
