SAS Starbeque
About this event :
This year’s Starbque will be held at our usual venue, the Millshields car Derwent Reservoir on Saturday 7th September 2024.
We meet around 3pm for our picnic / barbeque and continue into the night for stargazing.
A bit of cloud or rain will not stop the event going ahead but we will consider an alternative indoor event at the Wetlands if the forecast is really bad.
Normally fires are not allowed on this site but in the past Northumbria Water, who own the site, have allowed us to have Barbecues, so we will seek their permission again.
- Date: Saturday 7th September 2024
- Time: From 3 pm until very late, observing afterwards if weather is favorable.
- Venue: Will take place at at Derwent Reservoir located at our Millshield dark sky site.
This is our traditional celebration of the return of darker nights and, as this season’s event starter.
NOTE: !!! The event is free or anyone to attend it was previously SAS members only event.
Therefore, if you are not yet a member, it’s a good incentive to join the SAS:-)

Note 1: There is now a car parking charge of £1.50 for the night Millshields Car Park.
Note 2: Bring suitable clothing for the weather and observing, etc.
There is usually lots of scopes of all shapes and sizes, so if you are a prospective/new member that’s no problemo.
Bring pre-prepared food/meals (off-site) or disposable Barbeques(if we get permission – check Facebook updates/SAS email alerts for information updates on this ). If you hear nothing it measn no barbeques this season.
