SAS Lecture: The Star of Bethlehem

The Star of Bethlehem. Talk this Sunday 15th December 7pm.

With the academic world closing for Christmas we’re not able to get a guest speaker this month’s talk slot. Therefore Chris Duffy our Chair will do a light hearted topical talk this Sunday on “The Star of Bethlehem“.

Assuming the famous star was real, what was it?

The talk examines the possible contenders, Novas, Supernovas, Comets, planets,

 

Talks in Person

This walk will be held at the Washington Wetlands Centre (Discovery Room).

The talk will also be broadcast via MS Teams (providing no technical and/or WIFI difficulties)

Please show you support to our speaker and the Society in person if you can be there on the lecture night.

Our speaker

Chris Duffy as well as Chair of the SAS Committee, is a very active member of the Sunderland Astronomical Society.

Director, Lead Astronomer & Astro photographer (now semi retired) at Battle steads Observatory team
Chris is the astrophotography director at AstroVentures, an expert astrophotographer and astronomy teacher with a passion for Dark Sky objects.

  • Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society from 2014,
  • Physics Lecturer/teacher with experience in secondary schools and colleges since 1995.
  • An amateur astronomer since the age of 9 – particularly love meteor showers and satellite spotting.
  • Lead astronomer at Kielder Observatory 2013-2014
  • Member & Chair of Sunderland Astronomical Society.
  • BSc (Hons) Geophysics & Planetary Physics, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne.
